Illini Collector Car Club/ Urbana Sweetcorn Festival
1911 N. Duncan Rd, Champaign, IL 61822
8th Annual Urbana Motor Muster at the 29th Annual Urbana Sweetcorn Festival.
The Urbana Business Association
and Illini Collector Car Club are co-hosting the 8th Annual Urbana
Motor Muster at the 29th Annual
Urbana Sweetcorn Festival on Saturday, August 28th. Hours are:
10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at County
Plaza, downtown Urbana, at the festival. This antique car show
is truly a regional event with
cars coming this year from as far away as metropolitan Chicago,
Indianapolis, and St Louis. The
event is special for our region in terms of early antique and
full-classic vehicles displayed,
rarely seen at area car shows any more. A fine assortment of orphan
makes, sports and muscle cars
rounds out the display. The show is free and open to the public.
Approximately 90-100 vehicles are
expected.
Some of the special vehicles
scheduled to be on display this year are: a 1926 Duesenberg Model A
chassis and running gear, formerly
of the famed Harrah collection in Reno, NV, and the Auburn, Cord,
Duesenberg Museum in Auburn,
IN; a 1910 Buick Model 10 touring car that is fresh from a 10-year
restoration: and a 1956 Ford
Thuderbird, just completing a 3-year restoration by a local automotive
repair shop and owned by the
original local family since it was new. Some of the other great names
in classic cars that will be on
display this year include; Buick,Cadillac, Cord, and Packard.
The show has gained a reputation
for the quality and variety of its display, especially for the many
rare and valuable cars. Last year,
the show had vehicles just displayed at prominent concours d'elegance
shows, including Meadowbrook, MI,
and Pebble Beach, CA. The show is part of the annual sweetcorn festival
that draws over 25,000 visitors. A
focus of the show has been to gather together great vehicles and
show them off to the general
public, not just "car people." The diversity of the vehicles provides
an
educational display on automotive
history, from 1910 through 1979. In fact, every year about 500
visitors to the show are asked to
cast their ballots for the three "Peoples' Choice" awards, spnsored
by local businesses and
individuals. Although there are just a few awards given and no formal judging,
two other interesting awards are
the Pre-'32 Award, used to attract early vehicles and the Youngest
Owner Award, used to interest more
young people into the hobby.
