or see a list of sign-up locations near you. During the festival all volunteers
are asked to work a three-hour shift, with some exceptions.
Hand-in-Hand is a program aimed at teaching children
the importance of volunteering within the community. Centered around tasks where a parent or guardian volunteers at
the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival 2004, this program aims to get kids excited about
volunteering while being able to spend quality time with adults.
Participants will be expected to attend a “training
session” with their adult “partner” to learn the responsibilities of their
position at Sweetcorn the week preceding the festival. Upon completion of their task, the kids will
receive a Completion Certificate indicating successful participation in the
Hand-in-Hand Program.
verVe
verVe (the capital “V” is for Volunteer) is a
program aimed at allowing young professionals an opportunity to become active
members in the community while serving as a networking opportunity for others within
these generational spreads. Akin to an informal “match” making opportunity
intended to give participants the chance to make new friends and socialize,
this program will group participants in volunteer shifts during the festival.
Participants will be expected to attend a “training session” Friday evening of the festival. There they will learn the responsibilities of their position on Saturday. This training session, also known as a cocktail party, will be a chic way to incite volunteers in the area to participate while giving them an opportunity to connect with their peers in the area.
participATE
participATE is an incentive program that will be a
fun way for corporations and businesses’ to provide volunteers for the
festival. Each participating business
will provide a representative to participate in the Sweetcorn Eating Contest on
August 13th, 2004 to compete for first pick at positions for their
volunteers will “man” at the Festival during shifts. The representatives’ position in the rankings will determine
their position in picking a location and time for their businesses team members
to volunteer at.
Each team will be asked to have five members; there
is no limit to the number of teams a business may enter. All volunteers will be asked to check in for
a brief training before their shift at the Festival in the hospitality.
If interested in participating, sign up by calling
265-7507 and ask for Genevieve or sign up online at http://www.urbanabusiness.com/downtown/sweetcorn-festival.html.
